anyone going to the melia caribe tropical resort in the punta cana in late june to early july? Three friends and I (ages 19 to 25) are going from june 26th to july 3rd, 2009. Looking to see if anyone our age is going down there too. Let me know thanks!

Melia Caribe Tropical (Punta Cana DR) has anyone used the onsite babysitters? I am going to the resort later this year and I’m finding it difficult to get any info from the people at the resort. Has anyone used the sitters? Do you know what hours they offer the service, and how much it costs? Any info you can give would be helpful if you did use it. Did you feel comfortable or was it worrysome? I was hoping to use it after my son goes to sleep at night but I’m still unsure about it.

I stayed at the Bahia in Pureto Plata, and totally LOVED IT!
In Punta Cana we stayed at the Grand Paradise which wasn’t that bad at all the beach was amazing but the food not all that great!
But at the Bahia it was AMAZING…..they had street parties every night the staff is friendly and the food wasn’t bad at all even thou Im picky I would totally stay at the Bahia!

NightHowler replied: "Transportation from the airport to the hotel is included in your vacation package. They will be waiting outside the airport to meet you and show you to your bus. All that is required is a small tip to the bus driver when you get off at your hotel."

Melia Caribe Tropical????? I just booked my vacation to Punta Cana and have chosen to stay at the Melia Caribe Tropical. Anyone who has stayed here, please share your experience, and any advice (upgrade to the royal service, switch to another resort, etc….). Thanks!

stella39 replied: "Melia Caribe is a 4 star hotel and they all have junior suites. 11 restaurants, 9 bars, 2 swim up bars, 7 outdoor pools. I would say your are all set. If it’s in the budget, than do it. (upgrade to royal service)

Melia Caribe vs. Majestic Colonial…? Planning my first trip to the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana and am torn between two resorts, The Melia Caribe Tropical or the Majestic Colonial. Anybody who has been to either or both please fill me in on which one I should pick? I’ve checked tripadvisor and have read good reviews for both, just wanted to get some more input, thanks!

travel guy replied: "You are really in a good position, as both hotels have excellent reputations. I am an American Express Travel Agent, and can tell you that our ratings have the Melia rated at Deluxe, and the Majestic rated just below at Superior +. I have included a link below for information from our resort profiles for both properties.

I have sent several folks to both resorts and have gotten excellent feedback. Last year we stopped at the Majestic to pick-up some folks joining us on a tour. We only went as far as the lobby, but the place looked gorgeous!

Punta Cana Questions (activities)? Hello,
I am going to Punta Cana (DR) this month to august. I have a couple of questions that i would like to be answered .. i am still nervous.
I am staying at the Melia Caribe Tropical All-Inclusive Resort. I have some questions.
1. How many minutes is my resort from the beach?
2. How much money do I have to pay for horseback riding on the beach? Also, for how many hours do I have this deal?
3. How much $ do I have to pay for snorkeling? For how many hours?

4. Do you have any tips other than ‘bringing sunblock’?
If so, please state.

Mike C replied: "You will find a review on the Melia Tropical Caribe on by the end of the day.

You have made an excellent choice. The beach is excellent, one of the best in the country. I`m not sure about horse riding, I didn`t do that.

Snorkelling off the beach is free but it is not known for snorkelling. You can however take an excursion and find excellent snorkelling.

Take enough sunblock, it is expensive to buy it in the resort. It is slightly cheaper over the road at the shopping mall, the Palma Real.

It is a large resort and you find that there are trains to take you from reception to the beach area. It you make the walk it is about 10 minutes but you walk through the most stunning grounds. Look out for the pink flamingos, peacocks and even hummingbirds.

Take a few dollars to tip the staff. Also be aware that Dominican`s do not work at the pace of many US/European countries and also they do not all speak English. They do however try hard and are lovely people.

There are nightly shows, a casino, golf, a gym etc, so plenty to do and enjoy.

Don`t be nervous, enjoy it!"

Dominican Republic Vacation? My Fiance and I thinking of going to Punta Cana to the Melia Caribe Tropical Resort for our honeymoon on July 27th for about 7-10 nights we wondering what are the peak tourist seasons for DR and how the weather is that time of the year
Any fyi’s and suggestions toward the resort will be appreciated too.

I&JM replied: "We have traveled to the Dominican Republic specifically Punta Cana three times in the last three years. The last time was this past January and were married there!

We have stayed at Dreams Punta Cana the past three times – and absolutely love it. We have seen the Melia Caribe when dropping off people at other resorts – and it looked very nice.

The peak tourist season is generally December – April. Occupancy will not be as high in the summer and the weather will be very hot and humid. But still lovely.

You could check out a couple different websites –

They have forums on each page that can tell you more about the resorts that we really enjoy. Plus a lot of the regulars to the boards are also VERY VERY frequent visitors to the Dominican Republic.

As for the weather that should be great – try looking on for reviews on all hotels and resorts. But wherever you go I’m sure you will have a lovely time. Congratulations."

Judy replied: "I stayed at the Melia Caribe Tropical and LOVED it!! I went with a group of 5 family members of varying ages and interests and we all loved it. The beach is great, the restaurant options many and all delicious, and there is plenty to do.
